Errors and Contradictions In The Bible

Errors and Contradictions In The Bible

In this section of the site we will look into contradiction among Paul, Jesus, and God. We will try to bring to your attention some of the Errors contained in the Bible. Some may be able to be passed off as numerical transcription errors. Others should raise questions in your mind as to the validity of the contents in what is considered by many as the word of God. Many will say the Bible contains no errors or contradictions, but this is not so.

There some major contradictions concerning the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus (they can;t all be correct) as follows:

1. Who carried the cross? Matthew 27:32, Mark 15:21, and Luke (23:26 agree that it was Simon of Cyrene; however, in John 19:17 ONLY Jesus himself carried the Cross.

2. On what day of the month did the crucifixion occur? Matthew 26:: 20-30, Mark 14: 17-25, and Luke 22:14-23 agree it was tie 15th day of Nissan, only John 13 1, 29. 12:28, 19:12 has it occurring on the 14th day of Nissan.

3. What were the last words of Jesus? Matthew 27:46, and Mark 15:34 agree it was “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”. Luke 43:46 says it was “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.”. John has it as “It is finished.”. All three can’t be right.

4. Did the thieves crucified with Jesus believe in him? Matthew 27:44 and Mark 15:32 agree neither of them believed in Jesus. Luke 23:39-41 has one believing in him. Nothing is mentioned in John..

5. Who and when were the spices prepared? Nothing is mentioned in Matthew. Mark 16:1 has Mary prepared them after the Sabbath was over. Luke 23:56 has Mary preparing them before the Sabbath started. John 19:39 has Nicodemus preparing them before the Sabbath and not Mary.

6. Was the sun up when the tomb was first visited? Matthew 28:1 has it was toward dawn. Mark 16:2 has that they came after the sun had risen.. Luke 24:1 says it was early dawn. John 20:1 has Mary coming while it was still dark.

7. Although Jesus prophesied he would be in the tomb 3 days and 3 night as in Matthew 12:40 . What do the Gospels say? About how long he was in the tomb and how many people went to the tomb? Matthew 28:1 has 3 days and 2 nights with Mary Magdalene and the other Mary going to the tomb. Mark 16:2 agrees with Matthew and adds Salome. Luke 24:1 aggress with Matthew but adds Joanna, and other women. John 20:1 has 2 days and 2 nights and only Mary Magdalene going.

8. Was the stone removed when the women arrived at the tomb? Matthew 28:1-2 Not until the women arrived was the stone removed. Mark 16:4 the stone had been removed. Luke 24:2 agrees with Mark. John 20:1 agrees with both Mark and Luke.

9, How many angels were at the tomb when Marry arrived and what were they doing? Matthew 28:2 one angel sitting on the stone. Mark 16:5 one sitting inside the tomb on the right side. Luke 24;4 two standing by the women inside the tomb. John 20:1-2 none at Mary’s first visit and tow on here second 20 1:12 sitting inside the tomb, one at the head and one at the foot of where Jesus had been laid.

10. Who does Mary meet first after seeing the angels? Matthew 28:9 Jesus. Mark 16:9 Jesus. Luke 24:19 The disciples. John 20:11 Jesus.

11. Who does Jesus make his fist appearance to and where after the resurrection? Matthew 28:9 the two Marys on the way to Jerusalem . Mark 16:8-9 only Mary Magdalene sometime after leaving the tomb. Luke 24:13 -18 Cleopas and another on the way to Emmaus. John 20:1, 11-14 at the tomb and only to Mary Magdalene.

12, After the resurrection, how times does Jesus appear? Matthew 28:9-10, 28:16-17 twice. Mark 16:9, 16:12, 16:14 three times. Luke 24:13-18, 24:36 twice. John 20:14,20:19, 20:26, 21:1 four times. Now not to be outdone Paul claims six times 1 co 15:5-8.

The stories concerning the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are perhaps the most contradictory and controversial and should raise questions in your mind concerning the validity of these stories. Now let us look at a few more interesting facts as recorded in the Bible.

Blatant Errors And/Or Contradictions.

The following is an error not easily explained, for NO where in Jeremiah does he speak of thirty pieces of silver. I t can be found in Zechariah however

Genealogical Error?
Luk 3:35 Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala,
Luk 3:36 Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,
Gen 10:22 The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.
Gen 10:23 And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.
Gen 10:24 And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.

Speaking of genealogy, if one believes the story on how Jesus was conceived, then the only viable genealogy of Jesus is only two steps GOD begets Jesus. There is absolutely no need for any further genealogy on Joseph, his now supposed step father which would mean nothing to Jesus according to Jewish tradition. Besides Matthew provides 23 generations from Jesus to David whereas Luke has 46 generations from Jesus to David. Now really how is this possible?
