William Floyd DOI


William Flyod was born in Brookhaven, Long Island on 17 December 1734 and died on 4 August 1821 at age 86. He was a Presbyterian. He took over the family farm after the death of his father. He was a member of the Suffolk County Militia and became a Major General, Fron 1774 to 1776 he was a New York Delegate to the First Continental Congress. From 1777 to 1788 he was a member of the New York Senate. In March of 1789 he was electe to the First United States Congress and serve until 3March 1791. He ran for Lt Governor of New York with Robert Yates but suffered defeat by John Jay and Stephen Van Rensselaer in 1795.
