Lewis Morris DOI

Lewis Morris was bon on 8 April 1719 in Morrisania New York and died on 22 Jnuary 1798. He was an Episcopalian. On 24 September 1749, Lewis married Mary Walton on 24 September 1749 and had 10 children. When his father died in 1762 he inherited most of the estate. Appointed as a judge of the Admiralty Court for the province in 1760. He resigned this post in 1774 and was elected to the Colonial Assembly in 1769. He was a member of the New York Provincial Congress from 1775 until 1777. That body sent Morris to the Continental Congress for those same years. Lewis returned to New York in 1777, serving in its Senate from 1778 to 1781 and again from 1783 to 1790.
