Richard Stockton DOI


Richard Stockton was born near Princeton, New Jersey on 1 October 1730 and died 28 February 1781. He was a Presbyterian and married Annis Boudinot and had six children. He was a Freemason, Charter Master of St. John’s Lodge in Princeton NJ 1765. He attended Samuel Finley”s academy , now Princeton University and graduated in 1748. He studied law with David Ogden head of the legal profession. Richard was admitted to the bar in 1754. He was appointed to the governing Council of New Jersey in 1768; to the Supreme Court of New Jersey in 1774; and was elected to the Second Continential Congress in 1776.
