Thomas Stone DOI


Thomas Stone was born in Charles County Maryland in 1743 and died 5 October 1787. He was an Episcopalian and married Margaret Brown in 1768, and had three children by her. He was on the committee that formed the Articles of Confederation in 1777. He was President of Congress in 1784 for a short time. He studied law at the office of Thomas Johnson of Annapolis and was admitted to the bar in 1764 and practiced law in Frederick Maryland. He was a member of Maryla’s Annapolis From 1774 to 1776 and was selected as a delegat to the Continental Congress in 1775. On 15 May 1776 he declined further appointment to the Congress, except in 1784. He accepted electon to Maryland’s Senate from 1779 to 1785.
